Manila – Around one thousand militants stormed Mendiola for their Labor Day protests. Contingents from Kilusang Mayo Uno, Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, and other labor groups joined forces to demand lower wages and benefits for employees.
“We understand the predicament of employers,” KMU president Gary Lopez said, “they are having a hard time to please their investors.”
Henry Sy said that the labor groups’ demands are very timely. “The saving that we’ll get from lower salary from our slaves...err..employees will be used to build new SM Malls in the provinces.” Sy said.
President Aquino said in a radio interview that he will study the demands of the labor groups. “Their proposal is too much. In fact they shouldn’t ask for any salary.” He said.
